For the Overwhelmed

The plurality of life can be overwhelming. When we accept there are as many truths as there are people on the planet, the level of absurdity can short circuit the brain quickly. For those who have been working in social justice work and battling the system of white supremacy (especially in the US), the weight of these contradictory truths is soul crushing and maddening.
What do we do when there is no shared truth?
How do we face the fears this brings up for us?
As much as possible, we bring our focus back to what is right in front of us; to what is in our sphere of influence.
It is easy to spiral away from this and refocus on really critically important atrocities. For those moments, take a breath, close your eyes and send intentional energy to those working closely in those arenas. Then refocus on your sphere.
The system of white supremacy is designed to keep those who are dismantling it in their lives and communities distracted and confused. The more ridiculous, the better. It pulls our energy into places we can do nothing about.
You bet I am pissed off about the east wing being demolished. People in boats being bombed, a fake war declared in South America, when we have a very real fight for democracy happening in Ukraine and in our backyard as federal officers terrorize people daily. And then I close my eyes, call back my energy that is rightfully mine, meant to create socially just spaces in my sphere of influence, and get back to it.
If you are taking some much deserved time off at the end of the year, I send you focusing and revitalizing energy. Please stay informed, but not engaged with the state of the world. We need you rested and ready to keep at it in your communities come the top of 2026.
The absurdity is large, but you are larger. The atrocities drop us to our knees, so we can then rise again. You are unconditional love. You are unconditional love. You are love.
And we love you.
